Montessori Methodology

The Montessori method was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1916 and used throughout the world to educate starting from birth. Dr. Montessori observed that children experience sensitive periods, or critical windows of opportunity, as they grow. As students develop, the Montessori method matches appropriate lessons and materials to meet the needs of these sensitive periods. Lessons are presented at the time learning is most naturally absorbed and internalized.

In early childhood education, Montessori students learn by using sensory-motor activities, working with materials that develop their cognitive powers through direct experience. Dr. Montessori believed that children learned primarily through their hands and thus developed specific work to allow any age to experience learning through action.

Playgarden Methodology

Playgarden pairs the Montessori method with custom educational tools and group learning experiences. Prep curriculum has an emphasis on phonics using custom language cards, games and songs to strengthen children’s familiarity with the sound of each letter. Strong internalization of the alphabet cements fundamentals for all future language acquisition. Developed by a child specialist, with experience helping children on the autistic spectrum to acquire language, Prep custom lessons encourage students to expand vocabulary and compose sentences during a critical window for language.

Our Prep program also combines Playgarden Sports, Dance and Music class curriculum to the daily routine. Children are exposed to a variety of sports, dance styles and musical genres and instruments. Students learn to socialize through play, whether practicing sports skills on a team or making music as a group.
